Chinese Ambassador Ren Yisheng Attends the Handover Ceremony of China-Liberia Paired Hospital Cooperation Project

On February 8, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng was invited to attended the handover ceremony of the China-Liberia Paired Hospital Cooperation Project. A five-member delegation of Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital led by Dr. Liu Hongshi, representative of the Liberian Ministry of Health and member of the Board of Directors Mr. Davis, John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center CEO Dr. Brown and other hospital representatives, all members of the 15th batch China Medical Team to Liberia, and Mr. Li Jiang, economic and commercial counselor of the Embassy, were present.

Ambassador Ren fully affirmed the importance of the cooperation project between Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital and JFK Medical Center for the construction of Cardiovascular  Medicine Department at JFK, and stressed that the Embassy will continue to support the implementation of the China-Africa paired hospital cooperation mechanism, and will further strengthen the cooperation between China and Liberia in medical and health care, human resources capacity building and other aspects, to promote China-Liberia health cooperation for the benefit of the people. Representatives of Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital and JFK Medical Center delivered speeches respectively.

On May 18, 2020, President Xi Jinping announced at the opening of the 73rd World Health Assembly video conference that paired hospital cooperation mechanisms will be established between 30 China-Africa hospitals. Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital and the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) in Liberia established a cooperation mechanism is one of the implementation initiatives. As one of the important contents of the cooperation mechanism, the two sides launched the "Cardiology Construction Cooperation Project", which aims to help Liberia build an independent cardiology department with 12 beds, 4 cardiologists and 4 nurses through cooperation and assistance such as medical equipment and medicine donation, clinical guidance by experts, remote training and training in Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital, so as to achieve the goal of reserving medical and nursing talents, and to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and the ability to rescue emergency and critical illnesses. The project period is from 2022 to 2025.
